about
The Alpacas are releasing their second single of 2019. Played at BBC LIVE INTRODUCING London, 'Looking for the Light' is about offering a loved one something you think they need when they, in fact, need something else: "You were looking for the light, so I offered you warmth/ But that wasn't enough, because you wanted to see". Continuing their personal, story-driven style, the new Alpacas song starts out gently with an acoustic guitar, builds up organically with the help of violin and piano, finally expanding into an immersive intense ballad when all instruments come together.
Mastered by legendary Simon Gibson (Abbey Road) and recorded in Buffalo Studio (clients include Warner Music).
lyrics
Tides are flushing over, over the sands of time
Ties are made and broken, who knows what's yours or mine
And who knows what made us shine?
Thousands of words were spoken, thousands were left inside
But you knew that I knew that you knew that I'd reply
And so be laid side by side
How did you know to change my brass to gold
and to release me with your timid soul?
You were looking for the light,
So I offered you warmth, ooh
But that wasn't enough
Because you wanted to see, you wanted to see. X2
Hide your love well, my darling, In the corner of your smile
And show it to me seldom, To last me for a while
I know you'll do it in your style
And how did it take
So long for you to break
My mirror to pieces
While I was wide awake?
You were looking for the light,
So I offered you warmth, ooh
But that wasn't enough
Because you wanted to see, you wanted to see. X4
Tides are flushing over, over the sands of time
Ties are made and broken, who knows what's yours or mine
And who knows what made us shine?
